  Emer. Prof. Himani Bannerji (b. 1942) is a Professor Emeritus and Senior Scholar in the Department of Sociology at York University, Toronto, Canada. Her interests encompass anti-racist feminism, marxism, critical cultural theories and historical sociology. Her most recent research on Marx has appeared as chapters in A. K. Bagchi and A. Chatterjee (eds.), Marxism: With and Beyond Marx (2014), E. Dua and A. B. Bakan (eds.), Theorizing Anti-Racism (2014) and S. Mojab (ed.), Marxism and Feminism (2015). She has a book forthcoming on the modernity and radical humanism of Rabindranath Tagore. Professor Bannerji will be giving a short lecture and Q&A in Boğaziçi University on the subject of gender, ethnicity and violence in Indian politics. The gathering is also intended to be the book launch of Yordam Publishing House's recent collection of Professor Bannerji's essays on the subject.
