Abstract: The focus of our lab is to take problems we encounter in the hospital, such as patients who were challenging to treat or who experienced a complication or a device failure, to the laboratory to look for solutions. I will present several case examples involving acute hemorrhage, tumor ablation and tissue biopsy to highlight the medical problem and then present our engineered solution.
Biography: Dr. Oklu graduated from Yale University and received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, UK. After receiving his medical degree in Chicago at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, he completed a residency in surgery and radiology at Columbia University NY Presbyterian Hospital and a clinical fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He remained at MGH for the next 5 years reaching a rank of Assistant Professor. He was recruited to the Mayo Clinic as a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. Over the next two years, he reached a rank of Professor and became the Chair. He is the Director of the Laboratory for Patient Inspired Laboratory and the 3D Innovation Laboratory. He is also the Founder and CMO of several start-ups, he is a standing member at the NIH BTSS study section and is a member of the Mayo Clinic MD-PhD admissions committee.
