Abstract:
This talk will focus on the biomedical imaging and sensing applications of MEMS and micro-scanner technologies. I will explain the concept of MEMS-based confocal reflective and fluorescence microscopy and demonstrate the design, fabrication and testing of a novel polymer scanner based portable confocal microscope with a tunable focus. Subsequently, the talk will continue with a brief discussion of the proposed 3D printed micro-endoscope. Finally, I will conclude the talk by giving for future research pointers. Dr. Dağhan Gökdel received his B.S. degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University, Ankara in 2004 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Boğaziçi University, İstanbul in 2007 and 2011, respectively, with a focus on microelectronics & microsystems. In September 2011, he joined Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin as a postdoctoral research associate where he worked on the design, fabrication and characterization of Optical and Biomedical MEMS & Microsystems. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department of Istanbul Bilgi University. His research interests are microsystems, biomedical MEMS and microelectronics.
